Can you spare some change?

Thanks for joining me!

Nothing endures but change. – Heraclitus

While working on my psychology degree there was a lame joke which circulated asking how many therapists does it take to change a light bulb. The answer? Only one, but the bulb must really want to change. Change is hard and our brains are masters at avoidance. The psychology of change is fascinating. Some people are more apt to embrace change, others more inclined to resist change. Either way change can be disruptive both physically and mentally.

In this blog I will explore change in my life, sharing experiences which may help guide you or, at a minimum, help you avoid making similar mistakes. I’m not sure where this will take us. As thoughts come to mind I may blog about how I felt, how I acted, decisions I made or decisions I avoided.

Years working in the IT field I routinely came up against the resistance to change. One of the biggest roadblocks was a person’s ego. There was no shortage of ego in a field with above average IQ. Sadly some egos were so fragile they resorted to blatant lies and claiming other’s work as their own.

My belief is that healthy change comes when one pursues truth. But truth can be difficult to ascertain. Our brains are wired to make assumptions and associate patterns quickly, allowing us to make decisions without being paralyzed by indecision. Understanding how our mind works will aid us in our quest for truth.

We must all learn our own truth without losing our grasp on reality and without compromising objective understanding of the world which binds us together as a society.

Join me on my personal exploration of change past, change present, and perhaps change future. Where we end up in each post will be an adventure all its own.

A note on the name 2dimes4change. It is a play of words on the phrase “paradigm shift”. A paradigm shift is a fundamental change in basic understandings when new information compels one to replace your established way of thinking.

A paradigm shift is a drastic change in how one views the world. I underwent a paradigm shift as the result of years of experience and research. I will get to this in time. First I will discuss experiences which didn’t set right with me and over time provoked research and at times frightening questions.

Not all topics discussed in this blog are paradigm shifts. Some may be a presentation of ideas which may challenge the way you see the world. Those who know me may be surprised, shocked maybe. As I drawn closer to the end of my life I’ve decided to throw this out there and see what happens.

Change happens. We choose each day how we are going to cope with change.
